What Uganda Has To Offer As a Tourist Destination
Lying astride the Equator in the heart of sub-Sahara Africa, Uganda is a country of incredible beauty. Bordered by Kenya to the East, Tanzania in the South, Rwanda to the South-west, Congo in the West and Sudan in the North, makes Uganda a landlocked country. Sir Winston Churchill described Uganda as “The Pearl of Africa”.

Game viewing
The conservational safari, where we take the Tourists to the Savannah Grassland National parks of Queen Elizabeth, Lake Mburo, Murchison Falls and Kidepo Valley, and the Semiliki Wildlife Reserve, here you will be watching out for the traditional Big Five which includes: Elephant, Lion, Hippopotamus, Giraffe, Buffalo, Rhino, Leopard, Zebra, and a cross section of Antelopes, including the Uganda Kob, and the rare Sitatunga.

In the Rain Forests, the Montane forests in the National Park of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, is the home to half of the world’s rare Mountain Gorillas. Looking deep into the expressive brown eyes of these gentle giants is surely the most exciting and poignant wildlife encounter that Uganda has to offer.
In Kibale Forest and the Savannah Forest of Semiliki, is home to a remarkable 13 primate species, including the much localized black and white Colobus and red tailed monkey. |
| Kibale’s major attraction however, is the opportunity to track habituated Chimpanzees. These apes are more closely related to human beings than to any other living creature and are tremendous fun to watch. A network of shady forest trails provides much to delight botanists and butterfly lovers. |
Bird Watching
Uganda has 1,011 species of birds recorded in its area of 240,000 sq km, living in the wetlands, the savannah and the Rain Forest. One will be able to have a head count of 400 plus species or more, and of course you will not miss the rare Shoe Bill, and the endemic species like the African Broad Bill, in Mbwindi swamp. In Kibale National park, are recorded 335 species of birds including the endemic Prirogrine’s Ground Thrust. Semiliki National Park, situated in the extreme west of Uganda, in Bundibugyo District, protects over 40 bird species, essentially Congolese species, found nowhere else in Uganda. Semiliki National Park is an extension of the Congo’s vast Ituri rainforest.

For the daring visitor, you will have to try out White Water Rafting on the River Nile. Prince William is among the celebrities who have gone down the classic grade 5 rapids that challenge the Colorado River.
One can climb the legendary “Mountains of the Moon” (as described by Ptolemy in A.D. 150), the Rwenzori Mountains, Africa’s tallest mountain ranges with the third highest peak, with permanent glacial peaks. |

These are found on the archipelago of Ssese Islands which is a cluster of 84 islands on Lake Victoria, the world’s second largest inland fresh water lake. Spending a night there, where at day-break you listen only to the birds singing, and gaze at the stars by night, is an unforgettable experience.
Alternatively, one can enjoy the same experience on Lake Bunyonyi in the South-West; Uganda’s, second deepest lake, with a cluster of 26 islands; it is among the terraced hills of Kigezi nicknamed the, “Switzerland of Africa”. |
Culture
Uganda has a population of 24 million people, made up of 35 tribes speaking 77 different dialects. You will be treated to their traditional dances and colorful traditional dresses. King Omukama Oyoo Kabamba Iguru Rukiki, the world’s youngest King, gives a rich background of the numerous Kings of Uganda. King Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II of Buganda, rules 5 million subjects in the central region, the Kyabazinga of Busoga in Eastern Uganda, Emorimori of Teso in the North East, Rwot of Acholi Northern Uganda and Dheng of Jopadhola in Eastern Uganda, to name a few. Uganda is home to the “primitive” tribes of the Batwa, and the pygmies who are the natives of the Rain Forests.
Geospots
Uganda is home to the Source of the Nile. The river Nile wends its way 7,000km through a 3-meter wide gorge, (Cradle of the Nile at Murchison Falls), through the White Nile and pours its waters out into the Mediterranean Sea in Cairo, Egypt. The River Nile is the world’s longest river. Uganda is home to three World Heritage Sites: Kasubi Tombs, the Rwenzori Mountain Ranges, and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
